Aug. 1 - E.S.L.

E.S.L. (Vancouver-Canada)

E.S.L. are a band of gypsies, performing uniquely orchestrated songs inspired by everything from polish cabaret to Neil Young, Beastie Boys and The Velvet Underground. Singer, pianist Marta Jaciubek - McKeever (Girl Nobody), cellist Cris Derksen (Tanya Tagaq, Kinnie Star, Kanye West), violinist Diona Davies (Po' Girl, Carolyn Mark, Geoff Berner) and drummer Joy Mullen (The People Verses) create magical live performances that range from roaring gypsy-punk dance numbers to heartbreaking ballads.

Opening act: Cris Derksen is a young half-Cree classically trained Canadian cellist whose captivating melodies and steadfast baselines have captured the attention of local and international audiences. Using a loop station and effect pedals, she is able to create an inspiring multi-dimensional auditory experience. Working with a wide variety of artists such as Tanya Tagaq (throat singer), Kinnie Starr, Kokoro Dance and Kanye West, she layers her cello and voice crafting a distinct song form that is uncharted for most classical players. myspace
